It is unlikely that the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) will form an alliance against Imran Khan’s Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaaf and are likely to contest the upcoming elections separately, sources close to the PPP told News18.
News18 had previously reported that the PPP, led by Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and Asif Ali Zardari, wants a larger share of the seats in the elections, especially in Punjab, which is a bastion of the PML-N.
The PPP was a minor partner in the government of Shehbaz Sharif and has not ruled out a post-election understanding, provided their conditions are met.
Asif Ali Zardari recently said in an interview with Geo News journalist Hamid Mir that his party was open to all options, including joining hands with the PML-N led by former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.
He also said that it was not necessary for “Nawaz Sharif to lead the alliance, as there are other individuals, including those from the PPP, who can also lead the alliance.” “We gave them a chance before, now it’s their turn to give us a chance to lead,” he told Geo News.
Commenting on his son and PPP president Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, the senior leader said that he was “not fully trained” in politics and “needs time because he has no experience.”
Zardari’s interview comes at a time when various political parties are gearing up for the general elections set to be held on February 8 next year.
